Tally import is Molly's next phase; until then we move your books for you, and both trial balances must match.

Is Molly a free Tally alternative?
Molly is open source under the AGPL-3.0 licence, so there is no licence fee for the software. It is in development today, and we run pilots by arrangement. What you pay us for is the work around it: setting it up, moving your books from Tally, and support, quoted once we know the scope.
No. Molly is independent software, written from scratch by MithTech, with no Tally code in it. Tally and TallyPrime are trademarks of Tally Solutions, named on this page only to describe what Molly replaces. Molly keeps the habits Tally users rely on, such as vouchers, ledgers under groups and keyboard-first entry, in its own code.
Not on your own yet: Tally import is Molly's next phase, so until then we move your books for you. We export from TallyPrime as XML or JSON, load your ledgers, stock items, opening balances and the years you choose into Molly, then compare both trial balances, outstanding bills and stock value before you switch.
Molly records GST on masters and vouchers, with place of supply and reverse charge, prints tax invoices with an HSN summary, and builds GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B as JSON files you upload on the GST portal. E-invoices, e-way bills, GSTR-2B matching and TDS or TCS are not built yet; if your turnover requires e-invoicing, keep raising e-invoices on the IRP until Molly does.
On your own computer. Molly is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux, and it works offline. Each company is one file on your disk, so your books stay with you and back up like any other file. Several people working at once from anywhere, on a server, is a later phase; ERPNext does that today.
When orders, buying, manufacturing, HR or several branches need to live with the books, or several people must work at once from anywhere. Molly keeps accounts and stock simple on one computer; ERPNext runs the whole business. Moving from Tally to ERPNext is its own service, and we do both.
Molly stores every amount in whole paise, never as a rounded decimal, so totals don't drift across thousands of vouchers. A voucher whose debits and credits don't match can't be saved. Every change is kept in an edit log that stays on, so you and your auditor can see who changed what, and when.
We do, as its makers. In a pilot we set Molly up with you, move your books and fix what you find, working directly with the people who write the code. After the pilot, support follows our support and AMC terms, the same as every other system we run for clients.
The code is published when Molly reaches version 0.1; today it is in development. It is open source under the AGPL-3.0, with the connector kit under Apache-2.0, so once it is published anyone can read it, run it and change it. Your books stay yours either way: each company is one file you hold.
