Shopify to Medusa
migration, without the ranking loss.

Catalogue, orders and customers onto Medusa.js — URLs and rankings preserved, no platform commission on your sales.

For stores whose Shopify fees, apps or checkout limits now cost more than they give: a real export, a mapped redirect table and a cut-over planned around your sales calendar.

What moves

Everything that earns money, carried across.

Done only when the store sells as well the day after cutover as the day before.

Catalogue & inventory

Products, variants, collections, metafields and stock, mapped into Medusa.

Orders & customers

Orders and customers migrated, with the pre-2019 archive handled explicitly.

SEO & URL structure

Paths preserved where possible, a mapped 301 table where not — from a live crawl.

Payments & checkout

Razorpay, Stripe, COD and checkout logic Shopify would not let you change.

Integrations

Shipping, ERP, WMS and marketing re-wired around Medusa, replacing app subscriptions.

You own the stack

Source, data and runtime on your infrastructure — no commission, no app tax.
How the migration runs

A phased cutover, with the store still selling.

The old store keeps taking orders until the new one is proven.

1 · Assessment

Your real export, indexed URLs and app stack — audited, then scoped in writing.
  • Real export, real gaps
  • URL + redirect map
  • App-stack replacement plan
  • Scoped estimate

2 · Build & migrate

Storefront and backend built, data migrated in repeatable passes, payments and integrations tested.
  • Repeatable data passes
  • Payments + shipping + tax
  • Integration rebuild
  • Staging store you can browse

3 · Cutover & watch

Delta migration, DNS switch, redirects live, reset campaign sent — then rankings watched daily.
  • Delta migration
  • 301s live at switch
  • Reset campaign
  • Daily rank + revenue watch
Delivery boundary

Designed around the workflow in scope.

This page describes a reference approach, not an automatic bundle. We agree the systems, record ownership, interfaces, approvals, delivery gates and handover before implementation. Published outcomes are used only where their client-approved basis is clear.

Why MithTech

Commerce you own, behind a stack that connects.

An independent practice in Bengaluru. Medusa sits in the same ecosystem as ERPNext, n8n and Mautic, so the store connects to your back office.

What survives the export

Four of twelve data categories do not come out of Shopify at all.

Products, variants, inventory

Straight CSV or API export; the easy part of any migration.

Customer records

Names, emails, addresses and order association all come out.

Orders since 1 Jan 2019

The standard export window. Everything inside it transfers.

Orders before 1 Jan 2019

Outside the standard export. Needs a separate API extraction, or lives on as a read-only archive.

Metafields

Export support is incomplete — and metafields are where mature stores keep the product data they care about. Audit yours early.

Product and content images

You get URLs, not files. Re-host everything and rewrite the references.

Discount and promotion rules

Logic does not transfer. Rebuild by hand and test against real carts.

Customer passwords

Hashes are never exported. Every customer is force-reset on cutover — plan it as a campaign, not a task.

Analytics and attribution history

Does not export in any form. Warehouse the reports you actually use before you cancel.

Abandoned-cart detail

Gone. If recovery flows drive real revenue, rebuild them from scratch on the new stack.

Reviews, loyalty, subscriptions

Owned by each app vendor, not Shopify. Export separately from each, on their terms.

Subscription payment tokens

Portability depends entirely on your processor. Confirm this first — it can decide the whole timeline.

Estimate your migration timeline

The plumbing is the same for every store; the rest depends on catalogue, integrations and B2B.

Realistic range

3–7 mo

This estimates time to cutover, not time to stability. Merchants who have done it consistently report roughly a year before the new stack stops demanding attention. The six plumbing weeks are fixed overhead — PCI scope, fraud tooling, transactional email, monitoring, backups and load testing do not shrink because your catalogue is small.

Shopify to Medusa migration — FAQs

Not if the migration is planned around them. Shopify forces URL prefixes like /products/ and /collections/ that most stores keep, so the usual approach is to preserve the existing paths exactly and give Google nothing to re-learn. Where a URL genuinely has to change, it gets a 301 from a redirect table mapped before cutover — we crawl the live store during the assessment so every indexed URL is accounted for, not discovered afterwards in Search Console.

ERPNext

An online order, start to finish

A shop order is picked, shipped, billed and paid, and nobody types it twice.

Sales Order → Pick List → Delivery Note → Sales Invoice → Payment Entry

ERPNext

A sale at the shop counter

Bill at the counter, even offline; the day closes itself into stock and the books.

POS Opening Entry → Sales Invoice → POS Closing Entry

ERPNext

A return, handled cleanly

The customer asks in the portal; the goods come back and the refund posts itself.
