Best ERP Software in India (2026): A Neutral Buyer's Guide

ERPNext, TallyPrime, Zoho, Odoo, SAP Business One, Business Central and NetSuite compared for Indian buyers by business shape, licence model and GST, with our earnings disclosed first.

Disclosure first: MithTech implements ERPNext and supports Tally, SAP Business One, Zoho and Odoo. We are a Tally Certified Partner and earn a margin on the TallyPrime licences we sell; on ERPNext, Zoho, Odoo and SAP Business One we earn on our work only. We name two systems we do not work on as well. There is no single best ERP software in India; there is a best fit for your business shape, and this guide is built to find it.

Short answer

Match the system to the shape of the business. Books and GST for a few people in one office: TallyPrime or Zoho Books. A trading or manufacturing business that wants stock, production, sales and accounts in one system it owns: ERPNext or Odoo. A company whose customer or parent group already runs SAP: SAP Business One. A group on Microsoft 365 or one consolidating many countries: look at Business Central or NetSuite, which we do not implement.

I am Manoj. I lead ERPNext and Frappe implementations at MithTech, a team of Frappe specialists in Bengaluru. This guide puts seven systems on the same fields, says who each one is wrong for, ERPNext included, and leaves out a ranking, because a ranking without your business in it means nothing. Every vendor fact was read on the vendor's own site on 27 October 2026; what we could not check, we left out.

Who is writing this, and where do we earn?

We implement ERPNext. We support Tally, SAP Business One, Zoho and Odoo: fixes, reports, integrations and day-to-day help, plus new Zoho and Odoo setups on request. We do not run new SAP Business One implementations.

On ERPNext, Zoho, Odoo and SAP Business One we earn on our work only: we sell no licence for any of them. The one licence we sell is TallyPrime, as a Tally Certified Partner, so weigh what we say about Tally with that in mind. We are not on Frappe's list of firms. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central and Oracle NetSuite appear because buyers shortlist them; we do not implement either, so we gain nothing whichever you pick. Where ERPNext is the wrong choice, we say so.

Which ERP should you look at first?

The quickest filter is the shape of your business. Find the row that sounds like you and start there; the blocks further down say why.

No system wins every row. To answer questions instead of reading a table, the fit finder on the Choosing an ERP page asks what you run today and returns a short list.

How did we judge each system?

Five criteria, the same for every system. None is a feature checklist: every serious ERP in India can raise a GST invoice.

GST and e-invoicing

India requires e-invoices above a turnover threshold to be registered on the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP), which issues the IRN and QR code. We checked how each system reaches the IRP: from inside the software, through a GST Suvidha Provider (GSP), or as a JSON file someone uploads. The route decides how much manual work sits in your month-end.

Licence model

We describe licence models in words, not figures: prices change by edition, plan and region, and a stale number misleads. The shape is what lasts. A fee per user grows with every hire, a per-organisation plan grows by tier, a lifetime licence is paid once, and open source carries no licence fee.

Hosting and data ownership

On a self-hosted or on-premise system, you hold the database. On a vendor cloud, the vendor does, under its terms and in its region. Neither is wrong, but it changes what an outage, a price rise or an exit costs you.

Depth of local support

An ERP is only as good as the people who set it up and answer the phone after go-live. We checked whether each vendor publishes a directory of implementation firms you can filter by place.

Cost of leaving

Every system lets you in easily. Ask how you get out: a full export of masters and transactions, in an open format, without a fee. A self-hosted system gives you the database itself; on a cloud subscription, ask exactly what the export covers.

What does each ERP do well, and where is it wrong?

Each block uses the same six fields, so you can compare like with like.

ERPNext

  • What it is: an open-source ERP on the Frappe Framework that puts accounting, inventory, manufacturing, sales, purchase, CRM and projects in one system, with HR and payroll through Frappe HR. Version 16 is the current line.
  • Licence model: open source under GPL-3.0. No licence fee and no fee per user; you pay for hosting and for any implementation or support.
  • Best for: traders, distributors and manufacturers who want stock, production and accounts in one database they own, and multi-company groups that need one system across entities.
  • Wrong for: a team of three that only needs books and GST filing; TallyPrime or Zoho Books does that with less to run. Also wrong where no one inside the business will own the system, or where a customer mandates SAP.
  • India compliance: GST, e-invoicing with the IRP, e-way bills, GSTR-1 preparation and GSTR-2A/2B reconciliation come through the open-source India Compliance app by Resilient Tech. Some automation uses paid GST API access through a separate account.
  • Who implements it: firms in Frappe's public directory, independent firms such as ours, or your own team, since the code is open.

For a cost, estimate your price, or talk to us about ERPNext.

TallyPrime

  • What it is: desktop accounting and statutory-compliance software, with inventory, installed on your own PC or office network.
  • Licence model: two editions, Silver for a single PC and Gold for multi-user access across PCs. Each comes as a lifetime licence or as a rental for one, three or twelve months. All plans carry the full feature set; editions differ by users and PCs. Cloud Access is a separate add-on.
  • Best for: books, GST and statutory reports at one office, often offline, with a CA who already works in Tally.
  • Wrong for: manufacturing with multi-level BOMs and work orders, multi-branch operations that need one live view of stock, and teams that need approvals and CRM in the same system.
  • India compliance: TallyPrime generates e-invoices with the IRN, QR code and e-way bill number printed on the invoice, uploads and files GST returns directly, and reconciles with GSTR-2B.
  • Who implements it: Tally runs a public partner locator, searchable by location.

We support Tally and connect it to ERPNext; stay, connect or move are set out when you talk to us about Tally.

Zoho Books and Zoho One

  • What it is: Zoho Books is cloud accounting; Zoho One bundles Zoho's business apps, a CRM and finance tools among them, under one subscription.
  • Licence model: Zoho Books is a subscription per organisation, each plan including a set number of users, billed monthly or yearly, with a free plan for the smallest businesses. Zoho One is per user per month on annual licensing, either All Employee (every employee on payroll) or Flexible User (any number of users).
  • Best for: services firms and traders who want browser-based books from anywhere, and companies already using Zoho CRM or other Zoho apps.
  • Wrong for: manufacturers needing production planning in the same database as the ledger, and buyers who want to hold the database themselves.
  • India compliance: paid Zoho Books plans upload invoices directly to the IRP and receive signed e-invoices with the IRN. E-way bills are generated from inside Zoho Books once Zoho is registered as your GSP on the e-way bill portal. GST reports and filing are listed from the free plan up.
  • Who implements it: Zoho runs a partner directory you can filter by country.

We support Zoho setups and do new ones on request: talk to us about Zoho. Leaving it? See Zoho to ERPNext migration.

Odoo

  • What it is: a modular ERP with apps for accounting, inventory, manufacturing, CRM, eCommerce and more, in two editions.
  • Licence model: Odoo Community is under LGPL version 3. Odoo Enterprise is under the Odoo Enterprise Edition License, which needs a paid subscription for the number of users. Paid plans are charged per user, monthly or yearly; One App Free covers a single app. On-premise or Odoo.sh hosting comes with the Custom plan, Odoo.sh billed separately.
  • Best for: buyers who want an app-by-app ERP and value Odoo's CRM, website and eCommerce apps.
  • Wrong for: buyers who want every module free at any headcount; Odoo's per-user fee grows with the team. Check which of the apps you need sit in Community and which in Enterprise before you compare cost.
  • India compliance: Odoo's India localisation covers e-invoicing to the NIC portal (IRN and QR code on the invoice), e-way bills and GSTR-1 filing with GSTR-2B retrieval. The e-invoicing and e-way bill modules are in the Community code for Odoo 19; the GST return filing module is not in the Community repository, so confirm your edition covers it.
  • Who implements it: Odoo runs a "Find a partner" directory, filterable by country, with firms listed in India.

We support Odoo and set it up on request: talk to us about Odoo. The head-to-head is ERPNext vs Odoo for small business in India; the way out is Odoo to ERPNext migration.

SAP Business One

  • What it is: SAP's ERP for small and midsize companies, in a standard version and a version for SAP HANA.
  • Licence model: a named-user licence model: each licence is granted to a specific person, user names cannot be shared, and user types range from full access to limited roles. SAP Business One is sold, implemented and supported by SAP's partner network, so your quote comes from the firm you buy through.
  • Best for: companies whose customers or parent group run SAP, and buyers who want a system sold and supported through a local firm.
  • Wrong for: buyers who want to change the system's logic deeply in-house, or who want costs that do not rise per named user.
  • India compliance: SAP publishes a guide to electronic billing in the India localisation of SAP Business One 10.0, for both versions, which generates the JSON files in the government's format.
  • Who implements it: SAP's partner firms; we do not run new SAP Business One implementations.

We support SAP Business One with reports, queries, fields, integrations, data fixes and day-to-day user help, and run ERPNext beside it where operations need more: talk to us about SAP Business One. Compare in ERPNext vs SAP Business One in India; leaving it, see SAP Business One to ERPNext.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (we don't implement it)

  • What it is: Microsoft's business management ERP for finance, sales and operations, sold as a subscription.
  • Licence model: per-user subscriptions billed per user per month and paid yearly: Essentials, Premium (which adds manufacturing and expanded service management) and a limited Team Members licence. A free trial is offered.
  • Best for: groups standardised on Microsoft 365 and Azure that want their ERP in the same estate.
  • Wrong for: buyers who want no per-user fee or want to hold the database themselves.
  • India compliance: the India localisation exports e-invoice data as a JSON file and imports the signed response (acknowledgement number, IRN and QR code). Microsoft's documentation states that the export does not submit the invoice to the tax authority; that happens outside Business Central.
  • Who implements it: not us. Our comparison is in ERPNext vs Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Oracle NetSuite (we don't implement it)

  • What it is: Oracle's cloud ERP, run by the vendor.
  • Licence model: an annual licence fee made of three parts (the core platform, optional modules and the number of users), plus a one-time implementation fee.
  • Best for: groups consolidating several subsidiaries or countries that want a vendor-run cloud.
  • Wrong for: small Indian businesses watching cost per user, and buyers who want the database on their own server.
  • India compliance: the India Localization SuiteTax Engine SuiteApp generates e-invoices in the government's JSON format, certifies them on the IRP through GST Suvidha Providers (ClearTax comes preconfigured), and can generate an e-way bill from the IRN. A separate SuiteApp, SuiteTax Reports, produces GSTR-1, GSTR-3B and GSTR-9.
  • Who implements it: not us. Our comparison is in ERPNext vs NetSuite.

How do the seven compare side by side?

The same fields, one row each. The licence column is a shape, not a price; check each vendor's page for figures.

Buying from outside India: what changes?

Three things change once your business, or part of it, is outside India.

Tax. India runs GST; the Gulf and many other markets run VAT, with their own returns and rules. A system set up for Indian GST needs each other country checked separately. ERPNext ships regional setups for several countries, the United Arab Emirates among them; for every system here, ask for the localisation of each country you file in.

Local e-invoicing. India's IRP is one model. Other countries are moving to their own. In the UAE, the Ministry of Finance has set 1 January 2027 as the date by which businesses above its revenue threshold must run its e-invoicing system, through an Accredited Service Provider; smaller businesses follow later. A system that handles India's IRP does not handle the UAE's programme by default; ask how each country's mandate is met and by whom.

Where data lives. Some buyers must keep data in a given country, for a regulator, a parent company or a customer contract. Self-hosted systems (ERPNext, Odoo on your server, SAP Business One on-premise) let you choose the server and the country. Vendor clouds place your account in a region; ask which, and whether you can move it.

For a business run from Dubai, the Dubai page sets out how we set up ERPNext for UAE VAT, the VAT 201 return and the e-invoicing programme, delivered from Bengaluru.

Five questions to ask before you pick

  1. What needs connecting? Only books and GST: an accounting tool. Stock, production, sales and accounts: an ERP.
  2. How will the licence grow? Count users in three years, not today, and model the licence shape against that number.
  3. Who will hold the database, and how do we get it all out? Ask for an export of a test company before you sign.
  4. Who answers the phone after go-live? Ask the implementer for two clients in your sector, live for a year, whom you can call.
  5. What does e-invoicing look like on a normal day? Ask to see one B2B invoice go to the IRP and come back with the IRN, live.

To answer them against your own business, use the fit finder, or ERP consulting with people who work on five of these systems and say where they earn.

Frequently asked questions

+

What is the cheapest ERP software in India?

On licence alone, the open-source options: ERPNext has no licence fee at any headcount, and Odoo Community is open source under LGPLv3 (Odoo Enterprise is paid per user). Hosting, implementation, migration and support make up the rest, so compare three years, not the sticker. For ERPNext, estimate your price.

+

What is the difference between ERP and accounting software?

Accounting software keeps the books, GST and statutory reports. An ERP runs the operations around them (stock, purchase, sales, production, HR) in the same database, so a sales order flows to stock, invoice and ledger without re-keying. If spreadsheets are running your operations, you need an ERP.

+

Should we choose a cloud ERP or a self-hosted one?

Choose cloud if you want the vendor to run servers, updates and backups and are comfortable with your data in its region. Choose self-hosted if you need the database on your own server or in a given country, or want to avoid vendor lock-in. ERPNext and Odoo can run either way; SAP Business One runs on-premise or in SAP Business One Cloud; Zoho and NetSuite are vendor clouds, and Business Central as priced on Microsoft's page is Microsoft's cloud.

+

Is Tally enough, or do we need an ERP?

Tally is enough when the job is books, GST filing and statutory reports, at one office, for a handful of users. You need more when stock across branches, production, approvals or a sales pipeline live in spreadsheets around Tally. The middle path is to keep Tally as the book your CA files from and connect an ERP for operations; the Tally page sets out stay, connect or move.

+

How long does an ERP implementation take?

It depends on modules, data quality, the number of entities and custom work, so any figure before scoping is a guess. A full ERP across stock, production and accounts takes longer than an accounting tool, and the biggest variable is usually how clean your masters and opening balances are. Ask for a plan with a go-live date per stage.

+

Does an official vendor partner badge matter when choosing an implementer?

It tells you a firm has a commercial relationship with the vendor, and for some vendors (SAP Business One is sold only through its partner network) you need one to buy at all. It does not tell you whether the firm knows your sector or answers the phone after go-live. Ask for clients you can call. For the record: we are Frappe specialists, not on Frappe's list, and we sell no licences today.
